Thank Hip Hop for Rap In Your Country

Hip Hop has shaped the sound of music everywhere.  Not just on a domestic level but on a global level.   In some instances, the very artists who are influenced are not even aware of it.

Let's explore this a bit further...
What is Hip Hop?  Well, the answer to that question can be as complex as it is simple.  To sum it up... Hip Hop is a cultural movement that encompasses a combination of the following: expressing oneself through rap, disk jockeying, beat boxing, attitude, spoken word, fashion, visual graffiti arts, and sampling, for starters.

A brief history of Hip Hop reveals the debate of who founded hip hop . Many attribute its origins to the legendary DJ Kool Herc, a Jamaican immigrant who settled in Bronx NY. He exploded on to the scene in the 1970's as a party starter who brought us the first taste of disk jockeying. He would freestyle rhymes over reggae records. When he realized the reggae scene wasn't being met with much fanfare by the guttural NYC crowds, he figured out a way to keep his audience engaged; by playing just the percussion instruments of a record over and over. Then he would chant rhymes over these loops. This is said to be the birth of DJ instrumentals and rap.
